This post is designed to help augment our Tech Tip Video on YouTube where Josh reviewed his Crye Precision Nightcap.
TNVC has some of the best prices on Nightcaps, and they also sell the counterweights.
Wilcox makes the best base plates and NVG mounts, in my opinion. If cost wasn’t a factor, I’d have one for all my setups. Here’s the link to the one I use on my Nightcap in the video.
Here’s the Rhino-style G11 mount that Wilcox makes.
This is their J arm that I was too lazy to swap out on my PVS-14, which is why it’s shown in the video instead of the Elbit one I normally use with my Nightcap.
The military issues Norotos base plates and mounts, which I usually run on my Nightcap and keep the Wilcox mount on my bump helmet. You can use Norotos Rhino mounts and J arms with a Wilcox plate. Buying them from eBay is a cost-effective option if you’re looking for a deal, but here’s the exact one from TNVC that I normally run.
Elbit makes the Bayonet J arm that works with these mounts.
If you’re interested in Dyneema thread, I buy mine from County Comm, but unfortunately, they don’t stock it anymore. Here’s a similar product if you’re looking for something close to what I use.

For those wondering, since I know I’m going to get asked, here are the other harnesses on the market that seem like good options, but I don’t have firsthand experience with them. I’ll let you figure out which one looks like it belongs in the Special Olympics:
- Wilcox NVG Skull Lock Harness
- Raptor Tactical Sentinel Skull Crusher
- Norotos Facemask NVG Harness – I have some secondhand experience with this one. When I was on active duty, they came out to replace the old Skull Crusher. It was generally considered more comfortable but still not great—it made your face sweat. Most folks preferred wearing a helmet at that point since helmets had become more comfortable.
- Tracer Tactical Head Harness – I’d like to try this one out. The design seems solid, and I’ve heard good things, but I haven’t had hands-on time with it yet.
